Class Descriptions

Loperfido Dance Academy offers a variety of classes for all ages and abilities. Below you will find a descriptive list of the types of dance classes that are offered. For class-specific dancewear requirements, visit our Dress Code page.

When you are ready to dance, simply register online for your desired classes. If you have questions about our classes or need help with class placement for your child, please contact the studio.

 

Mommy & Me
This fun, creative movement class is the perfect match for mothers and children 18 - 24 months. This introductory class is aimed at helping toddlers explore the world of dance, improve gross motor skills, develop confidence, bond with mothers and build friendships.

Creative Movement
This fun and energetic class utilizes stretching, musical games, pre-ballet and tap as an early introduction to dance. This program has been specifically designed to develop the appropriate skills of the tiny, young dancer in training, ages 2.5 - 4 years.

Tinies In Training
This program is offered to dancers ages 5-7 years and focuses on fundamental training and skill building to develop continued strength and technique in the years to come! Class will focus on proper positioning, body alignment, stretching, and more to help your little one build the correct muscle memory. This is a wonderful opportunity for young dancers looking for superior foundational dance training in a nurturing, structured environment.

Elementary
This class builds on the creative movement basics. Students, ages 5 - 6 years, will learn the fundamentals of ballet, tap and jazz, focusing on proper body technique in an enjoyable, developmentally appropriate learning environment.

Tap
A form of dance that consists of intricate rhythmic patterns. This class includes many styles of music such as jazz, contemporary, big band swing, broadway and acapella.

Jazz
A technical upbeat form of dance that includes leaps, turns, stretching and fun combinations to today’s latest music.

Ballet
The foundation of all other forms of dance technique, this form of dance teaches grace, coordination, and musicality. The focus is on proper body alignment, strength, flexibility, and classical ballet technique that will provide students with discipline and skills needed to succeed in other forms of dance.

Pointe
This advanced form of ballet is offered by teacher recommendation only. In order to take this class, the student must take a minimum of three hours of ballet technique class per week..

Lyrical
A technical form of dance that has a strong background in ballet. The student will learn how to interpret the emotions of lyrics in a piece of music through dance movements.

Hip Hop
This fun and popular style of dance includes the latest “M-TV” moves. Students will learn moves such as pops, locks, freezes, ticking, waving, and even some breakdance. This class is perfect for the recreational dancer and is sure to provide a high-energy, cardiovascular workout.

Acro
A style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.

Stretch & Condition
This class is geared towards helping dancers further develop flexibility, body placement, and muscle strength/coordination.

Guided Improv
This class features exercises to help dancers fine tune his or her own creative style and create movement from their heart and soul.

Musical Theatre
This class focuses on the fundamentals of jazz technique filled with Broadway style dancing and music. This form of dance emphasizes learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and facial expressions.
